Prayers for Family
Please be encouraged to seek the Lord yourself during January for what He wants you to pray for Families and Marriages. You may also like to pray through these prayers below.
1. For Joy in God’s Creation
O heavenly Father, who has filled the world with beauty:
Open our eyes to behold Your gracious hand in all Your works;
So that, rejoicing in Your whole creation,
We may learn to serve You with gladness;
For the sake of Him through whom all things were made,
Your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
2. For All Sorts and Conditions of People
O God, the creator and preserver of all mankind,
We humbly beseech You for all sorts and conditions of people;
That You would make Your ways known to them,
Your saving health unto all nations.
We especially pray for Your holy Church universal;
That it may be guided and governed by Your good Spirit,
That all who profess and call themselves Christians
May be led into the way of truth,
And hold the faith in unity of spirit,
In the bond of peace,
And in righteousness of life eternal.
Finally, we commend to Your fatherly goodness
All those who are in any way afflicted or in distress,
In mind, body, or estate;
That You will comfort and relieve them according to their needs,
Strengthening them with Your peace and patience under their sufferings,
And bringing forth joy from out of all their afflictions.
This we plead for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.
3. For the Human Family
O God, You made us in your own image
And redeemed us through Jesus your Son:
Look with compassion on the whole human family;
Take away arrogance and a lack of love which infects our hearts;
Break down the walls (we build) that separate us;
Unite us in bonds of Your love;
And work through our struggle and confusion
To accomplish Your purposes on earth;
That, in Your good time,
All nations and races may serve you in harmony
Around your heavenly throne;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
4. For Peace
Eternal God,
In whose perfect kingdom
No sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness,
No strength known but the strength of love:
So mightily spread abroad your Spirit,
That all peoples may be gathered
Under the banner of the Prince of Peace,
As children of one Father;
To whom be dominion and glory,
Now and forever. Amen.
