Health and Science – October 2019

Introduction – Health

Health is not just physical (body), it includes spiritual, soul and body. If any part of these three areas is in ill health, it will affect other areas. 

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” [1 Thessalonians 5:23]

Let us give praise and honour to God.

Lord of Glory, You alone are God. You are the First and the Last. It was Your hand that laid the foundations of the earth. Your right hand spread out the heavens above. When You call out the stars, they all appear in order. You alone can never die and You live in light so brilliant that no human can approach You. No human eye has ever seen You, nor ever will. All honour and power is Yours forever, Lord! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection

The scripture teaches us that with the Spirit we can contact God, with the Soul we can recognise our emotions, our soul, and our intellect, and with our body we can feel our physical pain.

So who am I? 

I am a Spirit Being, I have a Soul, I have a Body.

The whole human being is affected by sin; therefore we need restoration in all aspects of our Human Being (Spirit, Soul & Body).

“But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.” [Isaiah 53:5]

Prayer Strategy

Prayer will bring about healing. God’s Word tells us so. Accepting this, Christians often pray for the sick and feel that their prayers are answered.

These verses below will show you how active God the Father really was in the area of divine healing when the Jewish people were walking in good stead with Him.

1. “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” [Galatians 3:29]
2. “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” [Exodus 15:26]
3. “And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.” [Deuteronomy 7:15]
4. “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.” [Exodus 23:25]
5. “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” [Psalm 107:20]
6. “He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes.” [Psalm 105:37]
7. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases …” [Psalm 103:2]
8. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; not one of them is broken.” [Psalm 34:19]
9. “For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” says the Lord. [Jeremiah 30:17]
10. “O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You have healed me.” [Psalm 30:2]
11. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds … Great is our Lord, and mighty in power …” [Psalm 147:3]
12. “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” [Philippians 4:19]
13. “But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” [Psalm 34:10]
14. “For the Lord is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” [Psalm 84:11]
15. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” [John 10:10]

Let us pray for Health Professionals

Wonderful Father, thank You for showing us the wonders of Your unfailing love. Thank You for hearing our cry for mercy and answering our call for help. Thank You for the health professionals in our nation. We thank You for doctors, nurses, researchers, scientists, hospital administrators, therapists, pharmacists, medical assistants, paramedics, and medical technicians. By Your wisdom, You have strategically equipped and anointed men and women with expertise in medicine, science, nutrition, pharmacy, surgery, rehabilitation, and counseling. Lord, You made the heavens Your throne; You rule over everything from there. Your angels praise You, Lord. Your mighty ones who carry out Your plans, listen for each of Your commands. Lord, everything that You created will praise You; everything in Your Kingdom! Let all that we are praise You!

A Blessing for the Health Service

Creator God,
who knits each person together in their mother’s womb: it is You who reveal knowledge to scientists and doctors. We thank You for the heritage of medical breakthrough, expertise and welfare we enjoy in our nation, freely available to us because of Your revelation, and the faithfulness of previous generations.
Renew thanksgiving in our hearts for what we have received because of others’ work and sacrifice.
Healer of nations, You provide insight to all who seek You, and defend those in need.
We thank You for the gift of health services in our nation, freely available to everyone no matter their background, income level or need.
Give Your wisdom to our government, health professionals, and advisers as they seek the right reforms.
Bless our health service to thrive, to prosper, and to heal.
Bless our doctors and nurses to care, to excel, and to bring healing.
Bless our nation to understand, thank, and honour those who seek to bring us health.
For everything that is good comes from you. Amen.
