The Government’s Role Toward Its Citizens
1. Protection and Security
At the most fundamental level, governments exist to protect citizens from harm, both internally and externally. This includes:
- Maintaining law and order
- Preventing violence and crime
- Defending the nation from foreign threats
This protective role is considered the oldest and most essential justification for government. (1)
2. Provision of Essential Services
Governments are responsible for providing the services that enable society to function. In Australia, these responsibilities are distributed across three levels of government—federal, state/territory, and local—each with its own service areas. These include:
- Healthcare
- Education
- Infrastructure (roads, transport, utilities)
- Social services
- Environmental management
Each level works together to ensure citizens receive what they need to live well. (2)
3. Investment in People and Society
Beyond protection and provision, governments are expected to invest in the long-term wellbeing and flourishing of their people. This includes:
- Economic development
- Job creation
- Innovation and research
- Skills and education
- Social cohesion and inclusion
This investment ensures a stable, prosperous society capable of adapting to future challenges. (3)
4. Upholding Rights and Responsibilities
Governments help shape a society where citizens understand:
- Their rights (freedom, equality, respect, compassion)
- Their responsibilities (participation, respect for law, civic engagement)
Civics education helps citizens contribute to a fair and just society and engage constructively even when they disagree. (4)
5. Policy Leadership and Social Direction
Governments also play a role in:
- Setting national priorities
- Creating laws and regulations
- Responding to social issues
- Managing public resources
- Representing the nation internationally
This leadership shapes the moral, cultural, and economic direction of a nation. (5)
6. Stewardship of Society’s Structure
Governments influence the structure of society across multiple dimensions:
- Economy
- Lawmaking
- Public services
- International relations
This stewardship ensures stability, order, and the conditions for societal flourishing. (6)
Spiritual Mapping for Government and the Military
These spheres carry immense authority and influence, making them critical targets for both spiritual warfare and redemptive intercession.
Government Mapping
Focus Areas:
- Foundational covenants and national charters
- Legislative history and justice systems
- Corruption, idolatry, or unrighteous alliances
- Redemptive gifts and prophetic destiny of the nation
Strategies:
- Identify and pray for spiritual gatekeepers and influencers (e.g., key leaders, institutions)
- Map and repent for historical injustices (e.g., Indigenous displacement, unjust laws)
- Discern and bind spiritual strongholds (e.g., pride, control, deception)
- Release decrees of righteousness, justice, and servant leadership
Military Mapping
Focus Areas:
- Military bases and strategic locations
- Historical battles and trauma
- Defence alliances and treaties
- Occult or ritual practices tied to warfare
Strategies:
- Pray for purity, protection, and divine strategy
- Interceded for breaking cycles of violence and trauma
- Release angelic protection and divine intelligence
- Bless military personnel with courage, wisdom, and moral clarity
NATIONAL DECLARATIONS
Speak these over your nation:
- “My nation [say it’s name] will be a land of peace, justice, and righteousness.”
- “Violence will not define our cities; hope will.”
- “The next generation will not inherit cycles of trauma.”
- “The Church will rise as a refuge, a healer, and a reformer.”
- “Jesus is Lord over my nation [say it’s name] — from the cities to the regions.”

Discerning Evil in a Culture of Exposure
(Extract from a Discernment Case Study for the Discernment Program by Lilian Schmid, February 2026)
Using the Epstein files as a contemporary case study.
Scripture
- “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness but rather expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11)
- “The prudent considers well his steps.” (Proverbs 14:15)
- “Seek justice, correct oppression.” (Isaiah 1:17)
- “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble…” (Matthew 18:6)
Short Reflection
The exposure of the Epstein files has stirred global outrage, curiosity, and a deep longing for justice. Beneath the headlines lies a spiritual reality: the exploitation of the vulnerable is an affront to the heart of God. Scripture consistently calls His people to defend the oppressed, confront evil, and walk in truth.
Yet discernment requires more than reacting to shocking revelations. It demands that we anchor ourselves in Scripture, resist the pull of speculation, and refuse to let political loyalties shape our moral clarity. Evil must be named — but it must be named with the light of Christ, not the heat of human outrage.
Christians are called to expose darkness without becoming darkened by it. We pursue truth, advocate for victims, and guard our hearts from conspiracy spirals, tribalism, and performative anger. Our response must reflect the character of Jesus: courageous, compassionate, sober-minded, and rooted in justice, humility and sound mind with no self-righteousness.
How Should We React to this Issue?
- Truth: Seek verified facts, not rumours.
- Justice: Advocate for victims and accountability.
- Wisdom: Avoid sensationalism and conspiracy traps.
- Courage: Name evil clearly and refuse to minimize it.
- Humility: Admit what we don’t know; stay teachable.
- Light: Expose darkness without becoming darkened by it.
Prayer / Declaration
Father,
You are the God who sees every hidden thing.
You defend the vulnerable and bring justice to the oppressed.
Today I stand in agreement with Your heart.
I renounce every form of exploitation, abuse, and deception.
I ask You to expose what is hidden, bring truth into the light, and comfort every survivor with Your healing presence.
Guard my heart from outrage, speculation, and fear.
Fill me with Your wisdom, humility, and courage.
Let my discernment be shaped by Your Word, not by the noise of the world.
I declare:
- Light will overcome darkness.
- Truth will prevail over lies.
- Justice will rise where evil has operated.
- Christ’s compassion will guide my response.
Amen.
