October - Health and Science

The scripture teaches us that with the Spirit we can contact God, with the Soul we can recognise our emotions, our soul, and our intellect, and with our body we can feel our physical pain.

So who am I?

  • I am a Spirit Being,
  • I have a Soul,
  • I have a Body.

The whole human being is affected by sin; therefore we need restoration in all aspects of our Human Being (Spirit, Soul & Body).

But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

Prayer will bring about healing. God's Word tells us so. Accepting this, Christians often pray for the sick and believe that their prayers are answered.

Rev. Thomas R. Rogers, Ph.D. shares with us that stories about people who were healed through prayer are abundant.

Christine Hughes, a nursing student at the University of Texas with an interest in the holistic approach to nursing (involving mind, body, and spirit, Christine did a case study on a patient whose cancer tests revealed abnormal cells. The woman went to her church and was the object of healing prayers there. On her subsequent tests, her cells had returned to normal. Hughes was impressed. Then, the case led her to an even more extraordinary story. Hughes learned that the woman's grandmother had once been diagnosed with advanced cancer and had been the object of healing prayers. Her advanced cancer also disappeared (Hughes, 1997).

Witnessing these kinds of results leads to the question, "Why aren't people who are in the healing professions more involved with prayer to promote healing?"

Hospitals usually do welcome the clergy to pray with patients and they usually maintain a hospital chapel, it is also true that not many of us can attest to healing sessions that involved prayer with the medical personnel of hospitals.

We need both Healing and Medicine. God gave His blessings upon doctors, nurses, Health researches, and many people in the Health industry to show His glory.

Daily Prayer in October

During the month of October we are praying for the Department of Health in Australia. We are dedicating 31 days to pray for:

  1. Doctors and nurses : pray for all doctors and nurses across Australia Scriptures: There are many verses that speak of using "medical treatments" such as applying bandages (Isaiah 1:6), oil (James 5:14), oil and wine (Luke 10:34), leaves (Ezekiel 47:12), wine (1 Timothy 5:23), and salves, particularly the "balm of Gilead" (Jeremiah 8:22). Also, Luke, the author of Acts and the Gospel of Luke, is referred to by Paul as "the beloved physician" (Colossians 4:14).
  2. Please pray for The Hon Sussan Ley MP Minister for Health
    Scripture: (Psalm 145:8-9).
  3. Please pray for Senator the Hon Fiona Nash Assistant Minister for Health
    Scripture: John 15:16
  4. Pray for Mental Health Programs
    Scripture: 2 Peter 5:7
    The Australian Government is committed to developing a more effective and efficient mental health system that improves the lives of Australians with a mental illness and their families. The Government tasked the National Mental Health Commission to undertake a review of all existing services. The Final Report of the Review, Contributing lives, thriving communities, presents an ambitious plan for broad, long term reform of the mental health system, which can be accessed via the Commission's website. www.mentalhealthcommission.gov.au

    Pray also against corruptive and manipulative industry practices that seek to benefit unfairly from maintaining poor weight control
  31. Please pray for Veterans' health, the care of their families, and the Department of Veterans Affairs

Final prayer

Heavenly Father,
I bow in worship and praise before you. I plead the Blood of Jesus on my entire physical body, on my entire soul and on my entire spirit. I plead the Blood of Jesus against any natural accidents or catastrophe's that may come against me. I plead the Blood of Jesus against any diseases, illnesses or sicknesses that could possibly come against me. Father, in the name of Jesus, I have full faith and belief that the Blood of Jesus will always protect me. Father, I surrender myself completely and unreservedly in every area of my life to You. I gladly put myself into Your hands and I am more than willing to let You find a way to release Yourself through me. I believe in you Lord and I have faith that you are the healer and the deliverer. Heal me now in Jesus name. Amen.
