Come Holy Spirit and prepare your bride to receive You with purity and holiness.

(See also this article from the Luke 18 project in the USA: How to Pray for the Church - "The church is God's answer to the condition of a city.")

(We also have a report on Early Church History by Michael & Joy Morgan, and Noel Bell of Intercessors for Australia (note: this is a 1.4Mb PDF/Acrobat file) that is worth reading if you want to understand some of the history of the Church here in Sydney and the difficulties and opposition they encountered - much of the current apathy to the Chruch has deep roots.

Prayer topics:

  • Unity among all denominations in Sydney - One Body of Christ
  • Universal recognition of what the church called to be
  • Our church leaders - in all churches of all denominations
  • Recognition of Christ as the head of the Church: in John 17, Jesus sets the example of how to pray for the church; he prays that his people "may all be one," united together in God (cf. John 17:20-23, what is known as the High Priestly Prayer.)
  • Holiness in the church
  • Repentance of sin
  • Pray for God's Will within the Church: in Colossians 1, the Apostle Paul displays his heart for the church by praying that the people within the church be filled with the knowledge of God's will, so that they can live for Jesus (ref. Colossians 1:9-13).
  • Linking prayer groups together in the same suburbs and regions
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to Move in the Church, the Ecclesia: In Ephesians 1 and 3, the Apostle Paul prays that God the Father would give the Spirit of God to the people within the church, and that that God would strengthen them in the Spirit so that Jesus dwells in their hearts and they are rooted in the love of Christ (ref. Ephesians 1:16-20).
  • Community - build a community to reach a community
  • Revival in the church
  • Pray for Fruitfulness for the Church: in 2 Thessalonians 1, the Apostle Paul prays for a church that is growing in faith and love while enduring persecutions; he wants them to know that Jesus will one day return to earth and that, until that day comes, the church must remain faithful and fruitful, working diligently to provide for their families and help expand God's kingdom (cf. 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12).
  • More Bible Studies and Home Groups
  • More Outreach and Programs to Evangelise
  • Training and commissioning of responsible Intercessors
  • Youth ministers/workers/leaders - for a strengthening of their faith to teach young people the truth with boldness and that they are a good example to youth and young adults, and that we have one in every Church to bring more young people into the Church: they are the future
  • Connecting of the Church and the Marketplace
