Now we are in the so-called 'silly season', when people suddenly stop being obsessed with ways to distract themselves from the multitude of pressures of living the busy modern life,
to doing all those things that have been pushed away or suppressed for the rest of the year: giving, sharing, spending unusual amounts of time and money on and with colleagues,
friends and family (and self of course). Not such a 'silly season' after all.
According to the Oxford Dictionary there are 2 main definitions of "recreation" in English:
[1] Activity done for enjoyment when one is not working. Origin is late Middle English
(also in the sense 'mental or spiritual consolation'): via Old French from Latin recreatio(n-), from recreare 'create again, renew'.
[2] The action or process of creating something again. Origin is early 16th century: from re- 'again' + creation.
So go ahead - invest in the people around you and those in need: we're all family forever after all.
